Slab on Grade for a Water Tank
Source:Internet Author:Unknow Pubdate:2008-12-16

Hey Guys;

I am designing a slab on grade. It is a 22'x 200' concrete slab. I will have several tanks along the concrete pad. Each tank weights approximately 141 kips. This load will be distributed by 4 columns, which will be attached to the tank. Therefore; I will have a maximum concentrated load of around 36k on the slab. I am using the ACI 360R-5, PCA method, but it is mostly for vehicular loading. Any Ideas on how to model the slab.

Thank you.

Are you wanting help with the structural design of the slab or how the soil will react to a slab with these dimensions?

Set the thickness of the slab to satisfy punching shear around the columns, (edge or corner case is controlling).  Design the subgrade soil compaction and thickness to minimize the differential settlement.  Add reinforcement to solve the moment, (flexural strength), across the 22' dimension as a one way slab.
