Have these been used for coastal protection where 6 foot waves or similar may occur during hurricanes?  What are their major advantages/disadvantages over seawalls.  Any examples/information greatly appreciated.

Fabric Filled revetments are appropriate revetment for stiuations with wave heights < 2.5 ft. For wave heights above this range, a fabric formed material will be a temporary fix only.  The rigid panel will crack quickly with wave heights above this height.

I have seen fabric formed revetments used for 2.5 ft. waver heights.  These have provided 15-20 years of protection.  A lesser wav e height will offer a longer design life.

A better option may be an Articulating Concrete Revetment (Petraflex, Armorflex).  These products are far more flexible and will thus provide longer design lives at a similar cost. 字串3

RMJ's Response on June 6, 2002 is somewhat correct  for the "FABRIFORM" Filterpoint & Unimat Erosion Control Revetments where design wave heights are 3 foot or less however there is a "FABRIFORM" Articulating Block Revetment Mat that are more cost effective, which have been subjected to Hurricane Waves one such project in Key West Florida has withstood three hurricanes with no major damage. The "FABRIFORM" Articulating Block Revements are installed without the limitations in trucking of the Precast Blocks and the heavy cranes required for installations.

Did you consider sand filled fabric (geosynthetic containers)? there are some interesting examples in Australia, e.g.

(I am living in Germany and am not attached to this manufacturer)
More Information is also given in Geotextiles & Geomembranes, Vol.20 N0.5 (October 2002)and at 2 session of the International Geosynthetic Conference in Nice, (September 2002)
